PEARLAND, Texas – The Clear Lake High School boys water polo team took first at the TISCA South Houston Regional Championship, advancing to the 2017 TISCA State Championship after their 8-7 win over district opponent and 2016 regional champion Clear Brook High School Saturday evening at the Pearland Natatorium.
Four Lake water polo players also earned First Team All-Region honors, including seniors Matt Churchman, Max Finch, Gabby Garritson and Chris Norlin.
The Falcon boys started the regionals tournament strong with a 13-8 win over Dawson on April 20. The boys continued their state berth by beating Friendswood, 4-3 in their following game. They secured their spot in the championship game Saturday morning, coming up from behind to win 10-6 against Brazoswood.
Brazoswood was third, followed by Clear Springs High School. The top four teams per region advance to the state tournament.
The Lake girls team fell short, losing to Pearland 7-4 in their first game followed by a 13-9 loss to Foster.
The Lake boys return to action May 5 against Round Rock at Lewisville ISD Westside Aquatics in Flower Mound, Texas.
